It is time for a new beauty review. This time I am going to speak to you about the Ouai Shampoo and Conditioner. I can remember seeing this all over Instagram when it was first released. I was interested in trying it out from the get-go. As much as I wanted to try it out, I was also pretty skeptical about it. I had never spent this much money on a shampoo or conditioner before.
It was a pretty big leap from the £5 that I was paying for my L’Oréal products that I had been getting from the supermarket. In the end, I was pushed into buying this because I had a terrible dye job. I wanted to get all of the nasty sulphates from my hair and it came onto ASOS.
The first thing that I noticed.
The first thing that I noticed when I hopped in the shower to start using this Ouai Shampoo and Conditioner was that there was no lathering up. With every other shampoo that I have ever used, I put a small amount in the palm of my hand, I then drag that down my damp hair, then using my fingertips I try to work it into my scalp and all the way to the roots of my hair. I used to find that a tiny amount of shampoo would do my entire head of hair without an issue because of how much it lathered up, but that could not be further form the truth with this Ouai product. The lathering is next to nothing and because of this I do find that I need to use probably 3 times more than normal.
How does it make my hair feel?
I feel like for anybody that is making a switch to a shampoo which is sulphate and silicone free, you are going to notice a big difference in your hair. For me, my hair just felt much more dry and that is because all of those ‘filler’ products that cheaper brands pump into their products are now out of my hair and I am for the first time in a very long time feeling the actual texture of my hair. I will also say that after each time I have used this product, because I know that it is doing to my hair in regards to getting out all of the nasty products, it feels cleaner than ever, Sometimes when I used to get out of the shower my hair could already feel slightly greasy and I would put that down to not washing the product out well enough.
Do I think this has improved my hair?
I will say that once I got over the first few washes and the silicones and sulphates were starting to leave my hair; I will admit that my hair felt somewhat lighter. Whereas the hair near my parting used to sit very flat to my head because it was weighed down by all of the bad chemicals, if I now let it to dry naturally, I feel like my hair is much lighter and even in some places I feel like my natural wave that I used to have as a child is coming back. As I mentioned, I don’t feel like the condition of my hair has improved in regard to the colour damage from 2020, nor the split ends from the dodgy cuts that I gave myself throughout lockdown, but I can tell that it has done the job of stripping my hair in a positive way.
Would I repurchase this item?
I feel like even though I didn’t dislike this product. I also don’t feel overcome by it. Honestly, I feel like if this ran out and I didn’t have another bottle in my cupboard as a backup. I wouldn’t really be all that disappointed. After using this, I did stay on the no sulphate train. I went ahead and tried out the Redken repair range. That is slightly cheaper than the Ouai and I liked using that a little more. This Ouai Shampoo and Conditioner is in no ways a poor product. I would just expect a little more for the money that I spent on this item. Not to mention that I also did feel like I burned through this product incredibly quickly. It would be very expensive to keep buying this every couple of weeks.
I hope that you guys liked this blog post. If you are looking for a new shampoo or conditioner, that this helps you. I have used two full bottles of both the shampoo and conditioner at this stage. Even though they are ok. I think that there are other products on the market which I would go for over buying this again. Especially now that there are alternative brands. Such as Function of Beauty where you can get something tailor-made of your hair. For the same kind of price point. I would love to hear what you guys think, so please do make sure to leave me a comment below!
