For me, this is my busiest time of the year in regard to
work. In my full-time position for my marketing job, we have some huge international
events coming up that we need to prep and work at. Then in my freelance writing
career, most of the big fashion houses and retailers are now prepping for later in the year,
so it is just a never-ending assault of content writing. Don’t get me wrong
though, I love all of the extra work at this time of year because it helps to
fund my obsession for expensive thing and extravagant gifts that I get for
people over the Christmas period. So, I thought that for today’s blog post I would
share with you some of the ways that I step back from my busy schedule and
refocus myself so that I don’t end up burning out during my busiest time.
Spend time with those that you love. Honestly, after one glass of
wine sat with my friends and family and I can feel the tension oozing from my
body completely. I have such an amazing support that I know I am incredibly grateful
to have and they sort me out within an instant. Even a night sat on the sofa
eating take out food with my husband and I am brought back down to earth and I feel
like I am energized to start another day at 100%. I count my lucky stars
every single day that I have such a great network of people around me and supporting
me and my endeavors.
Put your workload into a sensible plan. When you know that you have a million
things on your to do list that need to be done in a timely manner, it can
overwhelm you and you just end up getting nowhere with it. For me, I like to
clearly write out all of the things that I need to do and that I can put it in a
format where I know my priorities and it is assigned to specific days. This way
it is easy to see, clear to understand and it keeps me on the right path. I tend
to do this once or twice a week depending on how quickly my week is evolving.
Get out of the house. I am a homing pigeon through and
through. Even though I like working in the office and having routine to my day,
when I am not working, I love just to stay cooped up indoors. Even though it is
cosy and wonderful, it is not always the best because I can get a little stir
crazy. This past year my husband and I have been going on lots of long walks
through the countryside that we are blessed to live so near, and I am loving
every single minute of it. We are also lucky that there are so many wonderful
country pubs dotted around said countryside for some G&Ts.
Treat yourself. Even though I have been known
many times to indulge in some particularly expensive things, I can often put myself
second to others and sometimes I just want to go ahead and treat myself. This
for me normally involves putting on my glad rags, going to a big city somewhere
with my favourite designer stores and treating myself to all of the bits that have
been on my wish list for a while. I may regret it when I see my statement at
the end of the month, but I work hard so that I can treat myself every now and
again and I need to ensure that I am actually going that!
I hope that you guys liked this blog post and if you are
anything like me and you are a little too dedicated to your trade that it
encourages you to take a step back, think about what you are doing and have a
moment to yourself. Please do make sure that over this period you are taking
a minute to yourself, doing the things that you need to do and making time to
relax with your loved ones. I understand that the festive build up for most can
be quite an intense time and my heart honestly does go out to everybody!
It’s amazing how getting out of the house and going for a walk works wonders for the soul x
